Hi all,

As all translations are up-to-date (apart german ones, but Florian
does not seems to have time to work on it, and well it's not a big
deal), I'll release the 1.2.7 which would be probably the last one
of the 1.2.x. At least, no new features will appear in this branch.

Why would I release a 2.x branch you may think? Because I'm trying to
be more familiar with perl... And so, pdbv 2.x is going to be pdbv perlized.

I'm near from a 2.0.0 release. No new translations strings should
appears (or at least one or two) since there's nothing new in
feature... apart speed.

Following is the result of a test I made with the last 1.2.x and with
the CVS tagged rel_2-0-0_pre1.

Test of the 2003-02-22, result of `time`, on a P4, with basic listing, with
1324 packages.

        pdbv 1.2.6-2:
                real 5m4.347s
                user 3m33.840s
                sys 1m9.700s

        pdbv 2.0.0 pre1:

                real 2m54.569s
                user 2m40.020s
                sys 0m4.640s

"Advanced" listing is not available for now as I think I'll do it
using %hash, instead of calling and recalling many times the same
functions to get almost the same informations.
I haven't already worked on speed optimization (that means rethinking
parts of the pdbv code). I'll do it after the 2.0.0 release. And the
plan for 2.0.0 is to get exactly the same features than 1.2.7 (apart
"advanced listing").

You can browse the new CVS module called pdbv.perl:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/pdbv/pdbv.perl/

The original one was renamed to pdbv.bash but a there is a "pdbv"
symlink. After the 2.0.0 release, the "pdbv" symlink will point to
pdbv.perl.

Cheers,
