I am real new to .pdf and need recommendations for a basic way to:
1. Convert .doc files of book manuscripts and covers to .pdf files and
2. Manipulate them to conform to prepress layout needs of folks who print and bind books.
Would something like the activePDF suite work for this basic need? Just saw it touted in today's mail, but have no clue. PDF995 and Acrobat Reader are the only PDF-oriented software now on my computer.
I'm running Windows XP pro, 512meg RAM, 1.6gigahertz, 40gig HD on my desktop Dell.
I am basically a brand new, one-person small press specializing in WWII memoirs, diaries, and letters. I'm more interested in content than the technical aspects of getting 5-10 books a year in print. I am not averse to buying what I need for my little niche, but neither am I interested in overkill.
Any suggestions appreciated on what to buy, how to proceed, etc., either on this list or directly to me.
Barry
