Hi Jane,
You are NOT alone
I have been suffering with this problem for the past few years.
Exact number ? ... not worth remembering.
What I have been doing is this .
Go to DOS prompt and change the extension to .PS
This is ok when the file names are within DOS limitations.
If the number of characters are more than 8, then that file will in DOS will be something like Myfile~1.prn
In order MOT to have have this problem, I have benn chosing file names carefully.
But when some one sends a file (which does not happen in my case) you are in a problem.
I have made this suggestion several times to Adobe.
They have not even acknowledged.. leave alone giving a solution.
In life.. the best way to defeat the other man is ....to join him.
That's what I am doing right now.

Now I have decided to write (or get written) a small program in Visual Basic to change the extension from .PRN to .PS
It will be ready within a day or two.
I  will surely spare a copy to you.
Please send your reqest off the list.
It won't be a big file. It will be baout 30 to 40k file maximum
