The program "File Open
Author 2.5" has a lot of PDF security features including, "Lock documents to
hard disk, CD-ROM, or Web browser (prevents saving of documents
offline)". That sounds to me like the save function is
disabled and the PDF could be viewed, but not saved.
I've used this before on a CD-ROM subscription product where the files "expired"
(we said they "blowed up" because we're silly like that) and were no longer
viewable after 3 months, just in time for the next CD-ROM. The rub is
that there's no Acrobat 6 version yet. As we sometimes find out, that
doesn't necessarily mean it won't work with 6, just that it's not
"supported". Also, I think the whole organization is one guy, but he might
have expanded in recent years as we used this program 2 years ago and the CD-ROM
product has since gone online.
I
deleted the email, but this goes out to the nice lady who didn't want the bad
people to save her precious PDFs.
