Instead of importing a checkout, you probably want to rsync the actual repo and cvsimport that: rsync -avPS rsync://cvs.sv.gnu.org/sources/pdf /$SOME/$WHERE/$LOCAL/ will mirror the full repo. rsync://cvs.sv.gnu.org/sources/pdf/libgnupdf is just the library.
