Can anyone elaborate on ICC Tags? I use the ones that come with Enfocus Pitstop to adjust photos in PDF documents. They help to a certain degree in photo adjustment. For instance, a livelier picture can be generated from a drab color photo by tagging it as "Photoshop 5 Default CMYK". Another case is applying "U.S. Sheetfed Coated v2" to flat, dark black and white photos. This gives my b/w photos better contrast and lighter results. There are only 8 of these international industry standard files, therefore it's a hit or miss proposition. Is it possible to create customized ICC Tag profiles that will give me more control with photo adjustment and ones that will yield results closer to my expectations? Any info is greatly appreciated.

ICC tags are not intended to adjust pictures. This requires a soft like Photoshop...
Here is an extract from the Enfocus Pitstop manual, I encourage you to read it entirely, it's very well made and it's a good initiation in color management.

"A color management system (CMS) is a collection of tools designed to reconcile the different color capabilities of scanners, monitors, and printers to ensure consistent color throughout the creation, display, and print process. Ideally, this means that the colors displayed on your monitor accurately represent the colors of the final output. It also means that different applications, monitors, and operating systems will display colors consistently."
