Hi can some point me to a good on-line tutorial/explanation on the XML capabilities of PDF files.

What version of Acrobat?

For the new Acrobat 6, I spend a good 2 hours at my "QuickStart" seminars on just the new features around XML integration with PDF. That doesn't go into detail, doesn't address server-side issues, and only covers new features.

Not just the form posting but the actual format of a PDF document.

What do you mean? PDF isn't an XML grammar. It may contain XML data as part of it's structured file format. You can also embed PDF data into XML documents, such as with XDP.

What tools are people using server side in particular to extract data and content and to create data snd content into PDF s using XML.

LOTS of them. Depends on OS platform, integration language, specific requirements for creation/extraction, etc. And of course, what XML grammar(s) are required.

If you are interested, my company offers classes, training and consulting in this area and would be happy to work with you.
