Solving this problem is high on Adobe's hit list. It was possible to do
this in some of the technology acquired from JetForm/Accelio.

For now, it's not possible to alter the boilerplate to adapt to a changing
field size, but it is possible to have the field adapt to the limitations of
the boilerplate. If the field's font size is set to "auto" then a user can
enter as much text as they want in the field. The field's font will shrink
to a size that will accommodate all the text. Alternatively, you can set
the field's font size to a fixed value and select the "multi-line" and
"scroll long text" values to have the field automatically add scroll bars if
the text being entered exceeds the field's screen real-estate.

Scroll-bars work great for capturing information but do not work well for
printing. If you need form to expand/contract around the text for printing,
then one option is to buy a server product (such as Adobe Form Server or
Adobe Central Pro) and re-render the form after the user has entered in all
the information using a scrollable field.

Rob

Subject: RE: [PDF-Forms] grow text boxes dynamically
I have created a form with two text boxes for company management that I
have now been told will probably grow. The original intent was to keep
the form to one page, but they have now decided that under certain
circumstances, the form may grow to two pages, depending on what is
included in one or two of the text boxes. What they want is for the
form to be able to be kept to one page, UNLESS there is a need for one
or more of the text boxes to have more information than there is room in
the original text box. So, what I need to know is there a way to
dynamically grow a text box "if needed"? I am not a programmer and know
next to nothing about Java (if that is what is needed) or JavaScripts.
I hope I have made myself clear.

TIA for your assistance,

Roger
