.prn is the extension that Windows puts on a file if you have "File" set up as your printer port. The actual contents of the file depend upon the printer driver. For postscript printers, you will still get postscript. For HP PCL printers you will get HP PCL language, which is useless for Acrobat. If you are having problems with certain characters being mapped incorrectly when making a pdf using distiller, it is almost certainly a font problem. Font problems can be difficult to resolve, so the simple solution is to make sure that you include all fonts when you make the .ps file, and check the include all fonts option in Distiller. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 5:27 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [PDF-Forms] prn files PDF-Forms is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com/ __________________________________________________________________ Hi, List In regards to that "dashed line" problem we're having with our FRP based PDFs, I've been told to use a ".prn" file format instead of PostScript. Does anyone have more information on this? How do I make a .prn file? Any good web resources on this topic? Thanks, Mark A prn file is a type of file that I think is used soley for printing from Docutech machines. It is almost the same as a .ps file. You can take a .ps file and change the extension to .prn. Or, from many drivers, such as RoadRunner or HP, you can create a .prn from your Native file, choosing Print to File. However, to actually print the prn, you will need a driver that is prn-specific, which to the best of my knowledge is available as free downloads from the Xerox website. Our driver is called \\XEROXHoldQueue. We also use Print Method: Language Level 2. You cannot open on or print from a prn on your computer, but you can drag it to Distiller and turn it back to a PDF.
