This sounds like a lot more work than simply making the PDF directly from
Illustrator.

If it were me, I'd upgrade my version of Illustrator and be done with it.

Eric, you can also save all the Illustrator files in EPS format and create a
125 QuarkXpress pages document, with a picture box in every page. Get all
the EPS files in the Quark doc., each page as a picture. Choose a virtual
printer and you will get a postcript file which could be distilled. With
this methot you still have to work with all the Illustrator files
individually, however, you can control resolution, bleed and other things
that Quark can handle.
