Hi Gary,
What you need is the fdftool kit from Adobe. The function you are looking for is called FDFin.FDFExtractAppendSaves (for making a copy). I assume you are doing this from a webserver. The process is to use java or asp or .net whatever you are comfortable with to populate the fdf file and push the data into a target pdf file. Once the user makes edits then they submit it creating a new fdf file. The fdfextractappendsaves will essentially create a copy if necessary but most applications only want the data and this can be extracted and put into a database easily.
Good Luck
Aleck

Subject: [PDF-Forms] Writing to external index files

Hi.
I'm looking for anyone who has had any experience writing custom external
text files using form field data. I am starting a project that will entail
filling in a PDF file, then saving it, along with a separate text file to a
server directory. At this stage, I'd be happy for some generalized
information on how the process works.
Thanks,
