I thought maybe I was getting hits with stemming because the word "provide" does in fact occur in "provides", "provided" and "providing" so I was just getting regular hits. A search for "supply" with stemming returns hits on "supplies" and "supplied", so it's not just a word match, but true stemming. Again, is the help lying when it says stemming only works for indexes created with Acrobat 6.0? -----Original Message----- From: McClure, Mary M Sent: Friday, June 06, 2003 1:31 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [PDF] Stemming and Acrobat 6.0 The PDF list is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com __________________________________________________________________ While researching the new search interface in Adobe Reader 6.0, I found the following little gem in the help text: Stemming: Finds words that contain part (the stem) of the specified search word . . . This option is not available when conducting searches for phrases in indexes created with Acrobat 5.0 or earlier. However, when I search for "provide" against an index created with Acrobat Catalog v 4.05, and mark the "Stemming" checkbox, I get hits in many documents and the results show hits on things like "provides", "provided", and "providing". So, which is it? Does stemming apply to indexes created with non-6.0 Catalog or not? Looks to me like the help text is being less than truthful here.
