If you happen to work with Asian double-bytes language (Chinese, Japanese and Korean), outline Asian fonts first on a localized Asian Windows in Illustrator, then 'save as' pdf. Such pdf can be viewed on pure English OS, even your Acrobat has not installed Asian language support.
