Hi people, this is my first mailing to the list so I hope everyone will be nice :-)
Ok, so this is my problem :
I have to make a PDF with Russian caracters in it. For me there is no problems since the fonts are installed on my system. But when we try to look at the PDF on another machine we get an error message saying that (I traduce here ...) "the font is unavailable for substitution" and we only get "black dots" representing the caracters that Adobe won't display.
Basically the problem come from the Russian font that can't be embedded in the PDF (due to rights restrictions) ....
What can I do about it ? This is a very frequent problem that we have ....
First I tried to go back to the "P65" (page maker) file and putted all my Russian caracters in "Arial Unicode" but the caracters are all changed and got nothing in common with what it was before ...
I have a XML file also ... the russian is in Unicode entities and when I cut/paste between Internet explorer and word all the caracters stay the same (bingo!). So I got the idea to build a word document with all my problematic sentences, then make a "PS" file, then make the "PDF". This work very well ..... So at this point I guessed that I could cut/paste between my two pdf files (the one with Russian messed up with that proprietary font and the one with my sentences in Arial Unicode) but that does'nt work .... when I do that I only get a serie of black dots or "??????????" instead of my caracters .....
Is there an efficient way to cut/paste between PDFs and get all my caracters to be displayed correctly ???
If not, what can I do ?
Is there a way to write Unicode entities directly into Acrobat (like ß by example) ???
Any help would be appreciated - thank you very much !
