I am moving from distributing manuals in a paper format to distributing
them in a PDF format on a CD. For those customers who do not have access to
the internet, I want to include the ability to install the Acrobat Reader
from the CD. For example, a lab in China may have a computer connected to
one of our instruments, but that computer may not be connected to the
internet.

I am exclusively in a MS Windows environment. When I visited the Adobe
website, I noticed that there are several versions of the Acrobat Reader
available:

Windows 95 (9.9 MB file size, Reader 5.05)
Windows 98 (9.9 MB file size, Reader 5.05)
Windows 98 SE (15.3 MB file size, Reader 6.0)
Windows ME (15.3 MB file size, Reader 6.0)
Windows XP (15.3 MB file size, Reader 6.0)
Windows NT (15.3 MB file size, Reader 6.0)
Windows 2000 (15.3 MB file size, Reader 6.0)
Windows 3.1 (4.8 MB file size, Reader 3.01)

However, it appears to me that there might actually be only three versions
of the Reader: 5.05 (9.9 MB), 6.0 (15.3 MB), and 3.01 (4.8). If this is
true, the production costs for duplication the CDs would be lower if I only
had to include three versions of the Reader on the CD ROM, instead of
placing all eight versions on the CD.

My question is, if I place on my CD the Windows 95 Reader and the Windows
XP Reader and the Windows 3.1 Reader, will they also install on and work
properly on the other versions of Windows, or do I have to place all eight
Reader versions on the CD? In this scenario, I would place a listing of all
the Windows versions on the screen under "Install Acrobat Reader" and the
user would click on their particular version of Windows, which would point
to a 5.05 Reader, or a 6.0 Reader, or the 3.01 Reader installation
executable. Will this work?

Regards,
Richard
