Lately I have been creating PDFs with Quark and have discovered some puzzling
anomalies on which I'd welcome the help of the experts here.
I set up the master file to have 0.75" margins all the way around.
When I print the text/graphic image files to my HP 1150C color inkjet
printer (= HP 855C) the text reproduces with the proper margins and the
images reproduce brilliantly.
To transmit the files to others I print the QXD file to disk using the
Apple Laserwriter II NT printer (included with Quark 3.32) and its 'generic
color' driver.
I use Distiller 3.01 to create PDFs from the PS files.
Two problems ensue:
1-The logical page is displaced vertically on the physical page by 0.25 inch.
2-The color images are coarse and washed out.
I have set Distiller job options to
Device Settings Default 600 dpi
Compression Color Bitmap Images downsample to 300 dpi
Automatic Compression ZIP/JPEG Medium
Advanced Distill with prologue.ps/epilogue.ps
Convert CMYK images to RGB
Apply transfer functions
Remove under color removal/black generalization
Color conversion unchanged
Some of these terms are meaningless to me (e.g. under Advanced) so I am
really floundering here.
I'd appreciate confirmation whether a child PDF file must be able to
reproduce with fidelity to its parent file, and if so what I can do to
achieve that here.
Thanks for any help.
