D2P has installed Jaws PDF Courier into Universities over here.
I am sure if you did a direct comparison between Jaws PDF Courier and Adobe Transit you would be very pleased. For example the new Quark Express 6 uses the Jaws PDF Engine.
Global Graphics the owners of Jaws and also Harlequin have a strong presence in the US and I am sure that we can deliver a solution for you.

Yes, but just try getting some pricing from Adobe. I asked several months ago when I first heard about PDF Transit (which sounds like it would solve several problems here at the university) and I got a reply back which decribed PDF Transit but never any pricing information. I got the impression they were heavily marketing to 3rd parties who were designing software solutions for specific markets but not interested in selling PDF Transit on its own.

Adobe Systems does offer a development program to make PDF files by the name of "PDF Transit".

I should have been more specific. I need a stand alone program, plug-in
or print driver that I can set up and then give to my customers, that
are on PCs and Macs, that they can use to make a PDF. Most of them can
barely run a graphics program and the only PDF program they have is
Acrobat reader, so distributing setting won't help. For those of you who
sent program suggestions Thanks, I did get them.
My First Message.
I put together a magazine where I receive about 100 ads every other
month. I want to give my advertisers something, that I control the
settings on, to make "correct" PDFs of their ads before they send them
to me.
