Yep, It's the gradient...
Many non-Adobe RIP's cannot handle the InDesign's Clean 8-Bit gradients when interpreting the file for output.
If it's a single problem copy/paste into Photoshop and save as a Tiff. Replace/place the (now...) image with some kind of PDF tool, e.g. PitStop
and output again...

We have a new customer using InDesign 2.0 to layout pages & build ads, they make a pdf of the complete pages. They've only been printing at our site for 3 weeks, and until this week no problems. The pages/pdf's are sent via ftp. One ad this last week was 4/C.....pictures, some color bars and a color gradient background. Everything but the background separated correctly. I have calls out to various folks in our company for help, but I'm almost positive no one will have an answer, as all our offices use Quark 4.1 (they know we will eventually have to upgrade, but with 15 offices & 33 papers, this will be an ordeal). I attempted to look at the elements of the ad via Acrobat 5, the background temp file opened in Illustrator, and it was indeed cmyk. Could the gradient have caused the problem? If nothing in the ad would have worked, I would suspect the pdf process. Any suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated. Jackie
