At one time, AcroPDF had an instruction guide for copying the Reader folder to the CD - and instructing the AcroInch.ini file to run Reader from the CD and then open the target PDF file automatically - all without the need to either run Reader from the user's computer or perform an install. You might check with them regarding how to do that, as I could not find those instructions on their site.

AcroPDF has a simple and inexpensive solution to your problem. http://www.autorun-autoplay-tools.com/gst-acropdf-launch2.htm They have a tutorial on how to organize the files on CD and get Reader (placed on the CD) to run from the CD. We've used their product for several years and it works great. If the user has Acrobat already running, you have to warn the user to close it before inserting the CD. If the disk does not autorun, you have to provide some guidance to the user to find the autorun.exe file on the CD and start that.

the tutorials all include _installers_ for Acrobat reader and one of the prompts that the autorun will display reads... 'Acrobat Reader is not installed on this computer. This CD requires it to display a PDF document. Click Yes to instal Acrobat reader from this CD...'
So unless I have missed something...this product, handy as it seems, doesn't seem to resolve my problem... I can make a viable autorun CD... I want to ensure that it uses the copy of Reader I supply on the CD. And I want to ensure that hardly anyone has to open the PDF 'by hand'.

Previous posts on this forum have led me to think that I'd cracked the task of setting up Acrobat Reader on CD to autorun and open a pdf.
However while testing a current product for release I find that if there is an instal of Reader on the user's machine this is what opens, not the CD copy, which of course has preferences that are important....ie no splash screen or prompt to reconfigure the browser.
The autorun file is in this format: open=FOLDER\AcroRd32.exe FOLDER\ filename.pdf
What can I do to ensure that only the copy of Reader on the CD is opened?
If it matters... for various reasons I'm using Reader 5.0.5
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
