Janine,

there's very likely a simple explanation: two of the three printers are
black & white output devices. As Microsoft Word is a GDI application which
means it generates the PostScript code via the selected PostScript driver.
The PPD or setup file which is assigned to this printer instance then
controls the output color space. 'Acrobat Distiller' PPD or 'Adobe PDF' PPD
as it is called now describes a general color output device and therefore
the color information from the document is kept.

If you want to generate PDF files via Acrobat Distiller you shouldn't use
any other PPD than 'Acrobat Distiller' (Acrobat 4 and 5) or 'Adobe PDF'
(Acrobat 6) anyway.
