We have a requirement to scan about 250,000 documents into searchable PDF.

We understand from others that this is possible using Abobe Capture, but
unfortunately, it doesnot look like Abode can handle "proximity search"
functionality.

We have found another firm called DOCULEX that offers a scan to PDF and
provides the advanced search functions we need.

Does anyone on this group have any experience with DOCULEX?

As others have replied, you can use the Paper Capture plug-in in either
Acrobat 5 or 6. If you want to do editing, be sure to change the Paper
Capture settings to convert the image to text and graphics (the default
leaves the scanned image visible but has searchable text that is
"underneath"). The problem you may encounter is that Paper Capture will
not always faithfully retain the correct font or font attributes. I've
found it better to scan into OmniPage Pro 14, which will output into PDF
(as well as many other formats). Then you can use the text touch-up tool
(or PitStop Pro) for editing within the PDF.

I am scanning documents into Acrobat 5.0 and 6.0. Once scanned I cannot
use any of the editing features of Acrobat or even PitStop Pro. Any
suggestions on creating a PDF from hardcopy originals that can then be
edited with the tools above?
