No, of course not, but that's not the point. 

Here's the thing:

If I have full Acrobat on my system and you force a PDF to open in Reader,
which I also happen to have installed (and which might be an older version,
even) I'm not going to be happy.

If you shellexecute the PDF, then the system will launch it in whatever app
is set to own PDF files;  on your customers' systems, that might be the
free Reader, on mine it'll be Acrobat (or Reader, if I've forced that
behavior).  Either way, the user gets what they're accustomed to getting
when they doubleclick a PDF.
