Okay, here's what is happening.

Nagendra has two PDF files which were distilled with Acrobat 5 (not sure of
version). The font is Times Roman, viewed as New Times Roman. All special
non-keyboard characters (accents) barfed when the two PDF files were merged.

I merged the two files in Acrobat 6.x without incurring the same problem.

Potential solutions:

1. Make sure your version of Acrobat is at least 5.05.

2. Better option, upgrade to Acrobat 6 Pro for only $149.00.

I sent back a copy of the merged file to Nagendra.

There is no way I would have figured out this problem, muchless found a
solution, without looking at the files in question.

Hope this helps.

Rich

Dear Rich,

While working conversion work on one project, we noticed a peculiar behavior
of Acrobat 5.0. When they merged two PDF files, the non-keyboard characters
in the second file (which was inserted after the first one) got changed to
some other characters.

Attached are three PDF files:

C1.pdf : First PDF file
C2.pdf : Second PDF file, which was inserted at the end of C1.pdf.
C1-2.pdf : Merged PDFs

If you look at the "Bibliography" on the second page of merged PDF, you'll
notice that most of the "e graves" are now capitalized. The reason for this
strange behavior of Acrobat 5.0 is still unknown. We tested the same files
with Acrobat 6.0 and didn't find this problem.

Please have a look in it as we both are unknown the reason behind this.

Regards,
Nagendra

Did you make both of these PDFs yourself?

It sounds like they were made using different font encoding. If you want to
send me copies of the two PDFs privately, I'll be happy to look at them for
you.
