Perhaps it might be useful to have a look at the implementation of the
clipping operators. Some rendering of pdfs is improved but some are
getting worse, e.g. have a look at the flyer.pdf attached to PDFBOX-358.
Without clipping is looks quite perfect, but after enabling it some of
the content disappears or isn't rendered correct. Perhaps it is a
problem with the direction of the path and the winding rule which
describes in the end what area is painted or not??
