Our customers have noticed that Distiller 5.0 (and related products with drivers that create PDF directly) have a problem rotating pages as you request, even if you tell Acrobat or the print driver not to help you in the preferences.

The confusion seems to happen with perpendicular text, i.e., some text at one angle (usually 0 or 90) and some text at 90+ the original angle. Then you basically get a random output orientation. Things behave as if the distiller is looking at the orientations of the text in the PDF and making an on-the-fly rotation decision per page. There seems to be no solution other than to print to PS and use Distiller 4.0.

The problem with landscape in PDF is that there are 3 legitimate ways of
doing it.

A regular portrait page simply has a bounding box of 8.5x11 (you'll have to
forgive the non-metric measurements).

A landscape page can be one of:
        8.5x11 rotated clockwise 90 degrees
        8.5x11 rotated counter-clockwise 90 degrees
        11x8.5

Each application basically picks one of these at random, as far as I can
tell. ;)

I'm guessing that this is at least part of your problem. I'm not sure how
you'd detect this in PS and compensate for it, but I hope this information
will be helpful to you.

Subject: [PDFdev] Auto rotate and Photoshop

PDFdev is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com

In my attempts to automate Photoshop printing to a PDF file, I cannot
control from the Photoshop side or the distiller auto-rotate
function the
way to print landscape images as lansdscape and portrait as portait. I
always end with something that I do not control.

Any clue?

(windows based, automated via VB, on the client machine)
