The FDF toolkit has (had?) a bad reputation, stability-wise.  I've run
across a couple blatant bugs.  I've managed to work around them.  In the
end, we decided not to go with the toolkit.

FDF files are simple enough that raw string manipulation will often
accomplish whatever it is you want, input or output.

I haven't tried the FDF toolkit since acrobat 5, but I wouldn't get my hopes
up.

This is a project that strikes me as a great candidate for Open Source.  It
can't be all that large, it's not making them any money on it's own anway,
and from my experience the source could use a few extra eyeballs.
