Hello, I'm trying to write a PDF document by hand that displays text in an Eastern European character set. To do this I'm defining font objects using TrueType typefaces and custom encoding arrays. Here's a code snippet:- 2 0 obj << /Type /Encoding /Differences [ 189 /Dzecyrillic 190 /afii10102 191 /afii10104 192 /Acyrillic 193 /Becyrillic 194 /Vecyrillic 195 /Gecyrillic ] >> endobj 3 0 obj << /Type /Font /Subtype /TrueType /Name /Fo0 /BaseFont /CourierNew /Encoding 2 0 R >> endobj This works great when the document's viewed in Acrobat 6.0. You can see the correct European characters. It doesn't seem to work though with earlier versions of Acrobat as standard ANSI(?) characters are substituted incorrectly. Does anyone know of compatibility issues or restrictions for custom encodings? The PDF 1.5 specification appears vague on this. I'd rather not have to embed any fonts if possible. For what it's worth the above test also works for Type 1 fonts on Acrobat 6.0. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
