Hi,

Is anyone facing major behaviour differences between Search Plug-In of Acrobat v5 and v6 PRO concerning DDE use with SimpleQuery type ? (Windows XP, Acrobat v5 and Acrobat v6 PRO. And has anyone solutions ?

I noticed 2 major changes :

- When I poked my DDE request (SimpleQuery) with Visual Basic, Acrobat v5 used to show me directly search results. In v6, it doesn't and only shows the search pane filled up with my submitted query string, so user needs to launch search manually by clicking the Search button,

- When I submitted my advanced query (a string with boolean operators ~, &, |) via DDE (SimpleQuery), v5 used to understand it directly. v6 needs to be told manually (every time...) that it is an advanced query containing boolean operators,

So, with Acrobat v5, it was possible, with Visual Basic, for example, to automate a full-text query, ie to send a boolean query string via DDE and to obtain directly the list of results. Not anymore with v6...

I understood limitations concerning search functionalities in previous versions of Acrobat (No possibility to get results programmatically, only basic submission of query strings, ...) due to licensing considerations. I don't understand new limitations on v6.

I'm an Acrobat programmer since Acrobat v2, and it feels like programming with newer versions of Acrobat becomes more and more limited, and more and more expensive (just look at new licensing considerations about Adobe Reader plug-Ins). Is Adobe following a Microsoft-like strategy ? (I know the answer)

With all this, how can I continue to tell my clients that my Acrobat programs will work (in their global conception) with future versions of Acrobat, and that they won't need to pay several thousands euros more for compatibility ?
