Acrobat and the SDK are not licensed for use on a server at all, so
you simply won't be able to use them.

This is simply not true, but it has been repeated so many times that everyone believes it to be true, and it could easily be perpetuated by inclusion in a FAQ, which I discuss in my final paragraph. The license that comes with the install of the US English Acrobat 6 on my computer specifically allows server use, provided certain conditions are met. From the license:
"...you may install one copy of the Software on a Computer file server within your internal network for the sole and exclusive purpose of using the Software through commands, data or instructions (e.g. scripts) from another Computer on your internal network, provided that the total number of users (not the concurrent number of users) that are permitted to access or Use the Software on such Computer file server does not exceed the Permitted Number."

This would seem to exclude any use on an Internet server, since it would not be on an internal network. It may not be advisable to use Acrobat on a server. It might be better to use a tool that was made to run on a server. It might be a recipe for disaster. It might be easier to say that it isn't allowed than to explain to someone that they are building a rickety system waiting to fail. Yes, you would have to make sure you pay for enough licenses. Yes, some previous versions of Acrobat might have totally forbid running Acrobat on a server. But the license for Acrobat 6 in the US does not totally forbid server use of Acrobat.

I don't want to pick on any person in particular. I happened to quote one person, but others have written similar text. But this also raises a question about creating a FAQ that is accurate, especially since the statement above was put forth as part of a list of suggestions for a FAQ.

Dan-Ari
