This is known issue. Problem is probably in QSA scripting engine and its
memory management. Martin is currently working on QT4 port, where this
scripting engine won't be used anymore and hopefully all this problems 
vanish into thin air.

Of course, patches are welcome ;)  

If you need PDFedit documentation you should check doc directory or if
you add --enable-advanced-doc --enable-doxygen-doc parameters to the
configure script then you get also design (generated from docbook
documentation) and programming (generated from sources) documentations.

Nevertheless, pdf->TeX won't be an easy task (you were warn ;)), if you 
are interested in something smaller it would be better start.

Don't hesitate to ask, if something is not clear. I am not sure whether
we are able to answer questions about really deep details about PDF
format, but from the PDFedit API side it should be no problem.
