When I insert operators into a content stream (0.4.2, in a console
script), pdfedit produces warnings like:

1:KERNEL:cstream.cc:_makeXpdfObject:258: Length attribute of a stream is
not valid. Changing it to buffer size.

and while the resultant pdf looks fine in xpdf and evince, it appears
strangely corrupt in gv, with letters being displaced, or replaced by
others.

Is there a way to avoid or repair this kind of damage when inserting
operators midstream? Or should you always make a new content stream?

(I only ended up doing this when I thought prependContentStream was
broken -- now I use appendContentStream).
