Dear Boyd,
I may be wrong (I don't have much experience yet with docker), and I
don't quite understand why, but I ran the wlmb/perldatalanguage
container with the additional flag --ipc="host" and now I can run the
pdl/gnuplot demo without problem.
$ docker run -ti --rm --ipc="host" -v /tmp/.X11-unix:/tmp/.X11-unix
wlmb/perldatalanguage
