HI Scott and all I'm not an expert. But I think the explanation is very, very simple. The close up table has a subtitle: (Use of lenses in normal position). Now, why would yuo want to use a wide angle in normal position? It woun't enlarge much (if anything). You'll find the wide angles (28mm-40mm) in the "Use of lenses in reverse position" tables. The wide angles will enlarge more in reverse than the 50mm lenses.
