General consensus is that it is a very good lens for the range covered.
It has become almost an essential piece of kit for digital SLR users.
However, in order to achieve the range they had to do some compromising
which you need to make sure you can live with, mainly that the lens hood
cannot be removed, so you cannot use normal filters - it uses special
rear filters. It is also likely to be flare prone due to the large
front element, but then so will most wideangles in this range. I have
the 17-35 which is very good and less of a compromise, but doesn't go so
wide. If I didn't already have the 17-35 lens and was buying a DSLR, I
would give serious consideration to the 15-30. But then Pentax will
HAVE to come out with something ultra wide to accompany the camera
anyway - they are lacking in both the zoom and prime department in this
range. If it is primarily for the DSLR you want the lens, then I would
wait to see what alternatives Pentax offers.
