for closeups... Which type is the viv VS1?

My extensive notes on the Vivitar and Tokina AT-X twins make no mention of
internal focusing; hence I assume these lenses do not shorten in focal
length at high magnifications. They do use floating elements. I have the
Tokina, as well as the first of two tests that Modern Photography ran on it.
The Tokina actually performed better at f/2.5 than stopped down! I routinely
use it this way. But performance at 1:1 (using the 3-element adapter) was
not as outstanding; just very good.

Whatever its optical merits, users on the Olympus list and at least one
other non-PDML forum have reported that the Vivitar has a flare problem at
infinity because of insufficient baffling and the use of shiny surfaces
inside. Tokina made the Vivitar and may have fixed the problem when
introducing the AT-X version.
