The OM system included some very good "pro" lenses but there were also some real "consumer-grade" dogs. The Pentax 35mm system has always had a great many excellent lenses, very few that could be described as mediocre and almost no dogs. Of course, if apparent sharpness is the only standard by which you judge lenses, there are many brands that can appear to equal Pentax. However, on the basis of overall lens performance, and judging whole range against whole range, there are only one or two that surpass Pentax - Carl Zeiss and Leica in my opinion. Of course they cost several times more! John
