When I was in highschool photo, we were taught to presoak..I still do. For
about a minute or so while I mix the developer.

I use water that's _about_ the same temperature as the developer, pour it
in, invert it a few times and whack the can on the table to dislodge
bubbles. Mix my developer. Shake, whack, empty and then pour the developer
in.

I will almost definatly continue to presoak when I use Tmax, as the water
comes out stained purple, and I can't imagine that's the best thing in the
developer, either.
