Hi all,

after a recent discussion I did a rough check of the hardly specified
macro options of the old Pentax SMC-A 35-105/3.5 lense

I did not find any written details on the min. distance (normal: 1.5 m) or
scale of the so called macro range, or that this macro is available for
the full zoom range 35-105 (while e.g. the SMC-A 70-210/4.0 has a 'macro'
at 70 mm only).

 'Macro' Pentax SMC-A 35-105/3.5
 Brennweite Objektivlaenge Distanz Bildweite (Maßstab)
focal length outer length distance image width scale
  35 155 290 150 1:4.2
  50 410 180 1:5
  80 700 215 1:6
 105 165 920 225 1:6.3

All numbers in millimeters (apart from calculated scale)

the distance from film to mount might be about 40 mm,
the distance to the object was measured from this estimated film.

Thus the min. distance from the front lense to the object is
  290 mm (distance) - 155 mm (outer length) - 40 mm (film to mount) = 95 mm

The image width was estimated within the viewfinder horizontally.
Measurement was done with a Pentax Super-A. Its viewfinder should display
about 92 % - thus the real width would be slightly more.

Maybe someone will be interested in those 'specs' (although they are just
a rough estimation via viewfinder and ruler), searching through the
archives.

Kind regards
Martin
