You are correct.  The physical area the AF sensors cover is the same in
both cameras.  So it would appear proportionally larger in the smaller APS
image sized *ist-D.  And yes, the coverage area was optimized for the
smaller APS sensor, but it is still miles better than the 3 point linear
AF sensors in ZX series.
