A lens problem, I think. The only Sigma lens I ever owned, used to behave that way on a Super Program. Someone on rec.photo.equipment.35mm noted the same behaviour of a (different) Sigma lens on a Pentax body. (One of two reasons I don't ever plan to buy another Sigma lens.)
