One thing I do know is that to open the Motor Drive A, one needs a special tool. There are screws inside the battery compartment - three, if memory serves me - that must be removed to pull the thing apart. One of them is far enough back that it is impossible to get at with a standard straight-shanked screwdriver.
The trick is to remove the switch on the bottom first, then you will be able to reach that screw easily.
