If you go to the Pentax site, www.Pentax.com click on digital, click on Optio S, click on comparison charts, you can compare up to three different Pentax cameras. >From what I see, the main difference is the larger number of pixels (3.2-Optio S vs. 4.0 Optio S4) & the lack of color capture mode with the Optio S4. I just ordered the Optio S from B&H.
