I suspect that this may be a response to my "riding a bicycle while drunk" post. I don't know, because I haven't seen my own post yet, even though I've had an off-list comment. I seem to be missing quite a few posts on this thread. Damn Hotmail!

Okay, here goes. First, a disclaimer. Here in Canada, the Criminal Code only makes it an offense to operate a ~motor~ vehicle while your ability to do so is impaired by alcohol or drugs. So, you can't fly a plane, pilot a motor boat, operate a forklift, drive a snowmobile (that's a biggie in these parts) etc, while sloshed. You can ride a bike without breaching those sections of the Criminal Code of Canada (but that's not to say they can't charge you with Careless or Dangerous Driving...). Here comes the disclaimer part: In some jurisdictions it may be illegal to operate a bicycle while drunk. Please check with your local authorities before trying this.

Second part of the disclaimer: I can't give legal advice. The Law Society of Upper Canada really frowns upon it. Only lawyers can give legal advice. I'm no longer a Barrister and Solicitor, so I can't. Contact your own lawyer and obtain advice from them.

Third part of the disclaimer: I don't advise anyone to ride a bike while impaired. In fact, I strongly advise against it. Even if it's legal, don't do it. You could get hurt. Or die. What I said a few posts back was for the purposes of humourous repartee. I in no way meant to suggest that anyone should be so foolhardy as I once was, in my younger days. When I was a teenager, I had a haircut like David Bowie on the cover of Space Oddity. I strongly advise against that course of action, as well.

My lawyer wanted me to say all those things. Okay, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

BTW, I hope those "lost posts" show up. I wanna know what Tom (I don't even know which one...) is saying about me now... Sheesh.

cheers,
frank

Thanks Tom!

And it's not far from it down here either! I have a friend who tried to ride
his bicycle legally, but he was rammed so many times by other "bicyclists"
that he gave up! I call it "Suicide by Bicycle" around here! :-)
