I went to this city's newest cinema complex yesterday. I remember them
advertising digital projection, which I was definitely keen to check out.

Unfortunately we only got digital projection for the ads. The larger
theatres in the complex may use digital projectors for the main features
but we had film. My only complaint about the digital projector? It had
a hot pixel. A big bright green one.

Teething problems aside, I'm looking forward to digital projection. No
more excuses for Hollywood to stagger release dates (thus no valid reason
for DVD region coding). Also we'd get consistent prints (err, files?)
which never degrade, which is a huge plus to me. I've only seen really
good prints twice: these were the first two LotR movies, which I saw at
the Embassy Theatre in Wellington. Peter Jackson must have made sure
they had the best prints available as they're the best I've ever seen.
I'm going up there early next year for the final film. They didn't
invite me to the premiere :(

Cheers,

- Dave
