If you've started using medium or large format,
but find that your regular tripod for 35mm is
not heavy enough, but you also don't want to
spend the big bucks on a Bogen/Manfrotto outfit
(it's not hard to blow $250 on a nice set),
consider getting an older "video" tripod.

Legs are usually solid metal.
Head has no tilt, so it's a solid mount for your camera.
They go cheap -- $25 - $50 range on eBay, even less
at garage sales and thrift shops.
