I think the most worthwile additional feature of S4 is the possibility of RAW output (not possible in Optio S). David Coffin's dcraw.c now supports Optio S4, so hopefully, other software support would not be too far away. The increase in resolution is useful; the slight increase in noise is not very significant. S4 has better navigation buttons, longer exposure (4s vs 1s) and longer movie recording limit.
