"Bokeh" refers to the quality or characteristics of how a lens renders the areas of 
the picture which are not in focus. (Like in shooting for instance a head portrait at 
a wide aperture setting. Objects in front of or behind the focussed point - the face, 
the eyes or maybe the full head - will be more or less out of focus.)

Lenses will render these areas differently, more or less pleasing to the eye.
If a certain lens will render these areas in a pleasing way - the lens is said to show 
"good bokeh", if not maybe it's "bad bokeh"...
I believe the origin of the word is japanese.
It has often been said that (at least some) Pentax lenses have been designed with 
"good bokeh" in mind.

It has been the subject of many long threads on this, and probably as well on many 
other photography lists.
