Hi,

My lot for this months gallery were images from:

Jens Bladt - Painting Beauty

Derek Zukowski - Heavy

I really like the mix of colours and textures.  I like the fact that there is forground interest with the masks as well as the colourful backdrops.  The human interest really keeps the image going, she looks as though she wouldn't be anywhere else even if she could be. Maybe a lower perspective would have added more to the photograph rather than the slightly downward angle.  An upward perspective may also have avoided the highlight in the bottom left corner which is distracting.  A photo to be proud of.

I especially like the feeling of movement within this shot, you can almost hear those power chords being strummed.  Although the shot is interesting there is something missing that makes my eye wander and never really settle.  If I place my hand over the shadow in the bottom left corner the picture seems to be given more depth and vitality.  Only my opinion but it is usually the little things that stand out.

I really like this picture, it proves that you don't need eye contact to make a strong portrait.  Love the moody lighting, it could be a picture from the fifties or sixties.  I would love to see an identical picture but in colour just to see the difference, my guess is that it would lose much of its appeal.  I just wonder what she is thinking.  I just wish there wasn't quite as much of a highlight in the top right of the picture although it does contrast well with the dark top left and that there were a few wisps of smoke just to give the image a bit of life.  Well composed and well taken with the available light.
