>So the D1MarkII is non-pro? (1.3x crop). The EOS1DMarkII is a patch on a first generation camera. Comments reported by Pop Photo suggest that Canon intends to migrate to FF for future "pro" cameras. > Waht about the 10D? Not pro, although certain categories of pros use it. For both high-res and high-speed use, Canon makes better DSLRs. > Nikon is >leaving it up to other manufacturers (Kodak) to make 24x36 DSLRs. and >what a GREAT job Kodak did with that! I assume you are being facetious here? I don't think that Nikon is wise in allowing other manufacturers to walk off with their market unless they are in fact being very savvy about the difficulties of getting good and cheap FF DSLRs. Of course if Kodak actually gets it right before Nikon gets their act together, Nikon may find that they can't SELL a D2X because everyone who needed one bought the Kodak instead, or a Canon. >> Pentax could win market share by putting out an affordable FF DSLR if >>theother >> guys are unwilling to, but I doubt that Pentax has the volume to make an >> affordable FF DSLR right now. >>Nor is "full-frame" affordable for anyone at this point; otherwise Canon >>would have already done it. They have (EOS1Ds), but it is admittedly not cheap. On the other hand, wait a week--Canon appears not to sleep. Kodak's full-frame new N14 is selling (about to sell?) for only about $500 more than the 1.3x-crop EOS1DmarkII is selling (about to sell?). I think that we will soon see movement on the prices and availibility of full-frame DSLRs. It has been suggested that 8MP is a sort of physical limit for the current technology at APS sensor size, which would seem to require larger sensors in the future. I'm not convinced that middle and high end DSLR resolution will stop at 8MP, although I can see that 6MP could be fine for most folks and it would make sense just to make the 6MP chips better and cheaper for low-end DSLRs.
