CIPA (http://www.cipa.co.jp/english) just released Japanese February
production figures for film and digital cameras. film SLR production for
February YTD is down more than 40% over last year's February YTD. DSLR
production is up more than 500%. absolute production for February YTD is
almost 3 DSLRs for every 2 film SLRs. based on my rough extrapolation from
these numbers, there will be roughly 2.1 million DSLRs produced this year by
Japanese manufacturers of which Canon and Nikon will account for almost 2
million. there will be about 1.1 million film SLRs produced by Japanese
manufacturers.
